Braxton Carter made his debut in this world on November 29, 2011 at 1:30 PM. He weighed a whopping 7 lbs 8 oz, and was 20 inches long.
Greg and I arrived at the hospital at 5AM for the start of my induction. I knew it would be a long morning as I had to have two rounds of medicine due to the fact I had Strep B (just as I did with Mackenzie). The medicine is given through IV, and the doses are given 4 hours apart (meaning they first one started at 6:30, so the second wouldn't start until 10:30), it only takes about 10 minutes for all the medicine to go through the IV though. I must say that with each delievery I have had awesome nurses, they were both so sweet and easy to talk to, as well as informative. Braxton's delievery nurse made me laugh as soon as I met her (she was from Whales, so she had a nice accent although she has lived in the US for more then 20 years!), I was telling her about Mackenzie's birth and she would ask me questions and I would answer, then she finally looked at me and said do you not feel that, and my response was feel what, she said, that HUGE contraction you just had, and I said um, no I didn't feel anything, she just shook her and head said I will definitely have to watch you!! Needless to say I got an epidural, at around 10:30 because I was starting to feel my contractions that were off the charts (the nurse told me I had a SUPER high tolerance to pain as most of her patients would have had one well before then), this ended up being a true blessing.
My doctor checked me a little after 12 and said I was at 5 cm, so Greg decided he would go downstairs and get something to eat. At 1 the nurse came back and was asking if I needed anything, and I how I felt, I told her oh I feel a little bit of pressure but nothing too bad, she checked me and needless to say Braxton's head was almost already out, she said it was a good thing I had the epidural or he would have already been out on his own. So she got the room ready and brought everything they would need, and within five minutes and not even 3 contractions later, he was here.
He is doing well, he had us worried at first has he had to go under the warmer 3 times due to low body temperature (which he was born with) and they said that it can be a sign of infection and something they would monitor closely especially with my positive Strep B results, as it can be VERY harmful if he were to get it during delievery. They put him under the warmer last night at 8ish and brought him back around 9:30 and that his the last time he has been under the warmer. Since then his temperature has been perfect (thank goodness). I feed him around 10 last night, and tried to feed him again around 3 this morning after one of our many visits for temperature and blood pressure checks, needless to say all he wanted to do was sleep. He was so quite and well behaved he actually stayed in the room with us the entire night, it will be interesting to see how tonight goes. He finally ate again at 5:20 this morning, yes the boy went 7 hours between feedings, which I am sure won't last!
While his birth was far from worry free, right now everything seems to be a-okay with him so we are good. His blood pressure dropped to 90's while I was delievering (so good thing I didn't have to push for long), it turns out he was in the birth canal for too long caused him to start stressing and between having to be put under the warmer, this Momma was a nervous wreck yesterday. I also ended up getting sick after delievery which didn't happen with Mackenzie. I do feel better today, I at least don't have chills and neasuea like I did yesterday but of course I still don't feel 100%.
